Detecting sepsis early to initiate therapy and heightened surveillance saves lives. One of the core CMS quality measures is how quickly a patient is started on antibiotics, with hospitals penalized for acting too slowly.

Before moving on, we have to give real credit to the authors of this study which, spoiler alert, shows no benefit to a clinical decision support tool.

You would think that with all the emphasis on the need for a restful night's sleep, getting a night's rest while hospitalized would be a snap. You, of course, would be incorrect.
